The Billericay Emergency Food Bank now has it’s own website here

The Billericay & Little Burstead Team Ministry (Anglican Churches in Billericay) have opened an Emergency Food Bank, to provide food and other household items to anyone in hardship in the town. Hardship in this context means that they do not have food to feed their family and do not have money to buy food. The food bank store will be at St. John’s church, Outwood Common.

It is intended that this facility will be available from the beginning of March, and it is already holding a stock of goods to get started.

In the first instance, referrals of needy families will be invited from Sunnymede Junior School, Sunnymede Infant School and the Neighbourhood Housing Officer and moving onto GP’s, Health Visitors and Social Workers etc.

The reason we have not invited other agencies to refer clients is that, as a completely new enterprise, we do not want to overrun with demand. The team has to get its processes up and running, so we are starting with a small scope, and as we find that we can manage the volume generated this way we will invite other referral agencies. There would be nothing worse than families being referred, and we had run out of food.

The Co-op at Queens Park has agreed to be a collection point to which donated goods can be taken. Alternatively, there will be a collection point in the foyer at Emmanuel or goods can be taken to St. John’s church from 6.00 and 7.00 pm on Tuesday evenings and between 12.00 to 2.30 pm on a Thursday (FYI., this is not the same day that clients will be attending the food bank).

These are the food items we are collecting:

Canned meals
Canned meat
UHT milk
Canned potatoes
Canned vegetables
Pasta sauces
Soup/Noodles
Cereals
Canned/Dried desserts
Tea/Coffee
Squash
Rice/pasta

These are the hygiene items we are collecting:

Nappies
Sanitary products
Shaving equipment
Soap
Shampoo
Deodorant
Wipes
Toilet Roll
Tooth Brushes
Toothpaste
Brushes/Combs
Flannels/Sponges

It’s a matter of great concern for all of us that more and more people are relying on food banks to be able to feed their families – even in Billericay – and I thank you in advance for your understanding and supporting this initiative.
