I’ve recently become re-acquainted with the music of ‘The Bond’ (through a digital release) the brain child of Manchester’s Geoff Mann artist, musician, poet, playwright, vicar, husband, father, friend. It is said that Geoff packed more into his thirty-six years than most do in three-score and ten, releasing fifteen albums, performing hundreds of concerts, exhibiting at ten galleries, caring for his family and church members.

Listening again to the albums Won By One and Prints Of Peace (both released on vinyl in the late 80’s) after several years, I’d forgotten what a great lyricist Geoff was and how much I enjoyed his music – ‘prog rock’ for those who might be interested and not too dissimilar from Bill Nelsons Red Noise and Twelfth Night (he was a member for a few years).

Anyway, listening again to His Love I was quite moved by the song (it’s a ballad) but particularly the lyrics which I’m posting below:

His love, is a shield for the hopeless
His love, is a seed in the soil
All of His love He will give you
If you will learn to receive

His love, is worth far more than money
His love, is worth suffering and joy
All of His love can live in you
If you will only believe

His love, is a light on a tall stand
His love, is a shade in the heat
His love, is the gift of a clean heart
His love, drown the bitter with the sweet – His love

All of the pain you will pass through
The lies you will see bought and sold
Will never destroy His love in you
The Spirit of life that the grave cannot hold

His love, is a strong place to stand on
His love, causes blindness to see
His love, it is pure it is holy
His love, is forgiving and free

I’m grateful for His love
So grateful for His love
Undeserved for me

Geoff Mann
