And now for something quite different as we enjoy an evening designed to banish some of those post Christmas Blues on the ‘official’ most miserable week of the year as we showcase some amazing local talent. We are delighted to welcome three acts to play in the intimate surroundings of Saint Mary Magdalen ‘The Church in the High Street’ deserving of a wider audience and who will provide us with a varied evening of original songs, covers and plenty to get your feet a-tapping!
Mena & The Mojos
Are a Billericay based five-piece blues band, featuring Mena Aylott, one of the finest blues voices on the local circuit, with Chicago Blues, Soul and Ska influences. They have built up a great reputation as a band with an amazing ‘live’ vibe in the short time they have been together and are sure to bring our showcase evening to a foot-stomping end!
Luke Gambling
Is an Essex lad who has played guitar from a young age and, after playing in several bands, has now ventured out on his own and is establishing himself as a thoughtful and talented singer/songwriter. Luke’s latest self-penned EP can be downloaded here: http://instereorecords.bandcamp.com
Chris Hutton
Is an acoustic singer songwriter who has the ability to capture the very meaning and essence of the subject matter he writes about in his songs. He creates a melodic and atmospheric ambiance that will bring you in to be a part of the experience. Chris is a regular on the Folk and Acoustic scene in Essex and is fast broadening his reputation and following.
Tickets for this showcase event are FREE, however, to give us some idea of how many to expect, and because we have a limit on numbers, be sure to book your tickets by contacting 8paul@billericaychurches.org or by sending a SAE to: The Rectory, 40 Laindon Road, Billericay, Essex. CM12 9LD.
Depending on numbers, we may set up ‘Cafe Style’ as before. As at previous gigs, please feel free to bring along your own refreshments – mines a red wine! A ‘whip round’ will be taken on the evening and, once expenses of the artists have been met, proceeds will go towards the upkeep of Saint Mary’s.
Please note, this concert is NOT taking place at Emmanuel, however, you can park in the church car park or in the High Street or the public car park behind Iceland. Saint Mary’s is situated in the centre of the High Street (CM12 9BQ) and is a 5 minute walk from Billericay train station.
