We are delighted to welcome Emily back to Emmanuel on Saturday 3 December 2016 along with Christian Dunham (Bass Player extraordinaire and husband). Emily has always been warmly received when she’s played here in the past and is one our favourite artists – we’re guaranteed another outstanding evening of amazing somgs and chat!

Classically trained on piano, cello, recorder and flute, by the time she was 12, Emily seemed destined to be a professional cellist. Growing up with no TV, reading poetry and listening only to classical music, Emily was quite happy reading and playing Bach, until … she discovered Bob Marley and the guitar! Emily puts her classical training to good use, writing and recording string arrangements for her albums.

Best-known for her strong, thought-provoking lyrics and ‘supremely expressive vocals’ (R2 Magazine) Emily’s songs have been played regularly on Radio 2 and have won her fans across the globe. Emily writes lyrics of great depth alongside moving and memorable tunes and isn’t afraid to shy away from her life-long battle with Bipolar Disorder. In a recent interview Emily commented: “Music to me is all about uplifting, comforting and inspiring people.”

Full of vibrancy and blossoming with an abundance of talent and passion, music for the soul … Maverick Magazine

Emily has lived on a farm in the Australian bush writing and recording songs, growing veggies, making goats cheese, collecting rainwater, dodging snakes and spiders and living in a shack made from recycled wood, tin and potato sacks! Now based in the UK, Emily has released four studio albums: Stranger Place (2004); Keep Walking (2008); Believer (2010) Bird Inside A Cage (2013) and the eagerly awaited A Bit Of Blue due for release early 2017. Emily will be showcasing some of those songs with us.

Emily has toured with some of the world’s great singer-songwriters including American legend Don McLean, Eric Bibb, Paul Brady and Dennis Locorriere (formerly Dr Hook) and has found herself on stage at the biggest concert venues in the country as well as playing the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury. Emily is a regular on Radio 2’s ‘Good Morning Sunday’ with Clare Balding and Radio 4’s ‘Midweek’ with Libby Purves.

Support will be from Chris Hutton, a singer/songwriter who is a regular on the Folk and Acoustic scene in Essex and is fast broadening his reputation and following.
