I’m delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Danni Nicholls to Billericay. Americana Music Association UK nominee Danni is an accomplished singer/songwriter whose star is on the rise. She is an artist who seems to be getting better and better and she has a great future ahead of her. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Danni has agreed to play at The Rectory on Friday 8 February 2019 at the end of a – yet to be announced – tour to showcase her soon to be released new album.
About Danni Nicholls
From a young age, Bedford born Danni, was soaking up American folk, country and rock ‘n’ roll music from her Grandmother’s record collection. When she inherited her Uncle Heathcliff’s 1963 Burns London Shortscale Jazz guitar (rumoured to have belonged to Billy Fury!) aged 16, all those influences came pouring back in the form of her own original material and has been flowing ever since.
Danni has released two critically acclaimed albums both of which were produced by bassist/producer Chris Donohue in Nashville and feature some of the city’s finest musicians including the legendary Al Perkins (Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, The Rolling Stones) Will Kimbrough (Jimmy Buffett, John Prine) and Steve Fishell (Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt).
2017 proved to be a wonderful year which saw Danni supporting Shakin’ Stevens on his 28 date major UK tour to opening one of only two UK shows for Lucinda Williams. In addition, Danni was invited to perform at the Americana Music Association UK awards in front of notables such as Imelda May, Jools Holland and Van Morrison and showcased at prestigious events such as Cambridge Folk Festival, Tonder Festival in Denmark and AmericanaFest in Nashville. Danni’s album ’Mockingbird Lane’ was nominated AMAUK ‘UK Album of the Year 2017.
Danni’s success continued into 2018 when she was nominated as AMAUK ‘UK Artist of the Year 2018.’ Danni was also nominated to the short-list of just five artists for ‘Best Country/Folk Act’ for the 2018 Unsigned Music Awards. 2018 also saw an official showcase at the Folk Alliance in Kansas, an invite supporting The Secret Sisters on their UK and Ireland tour in March.
Danni’s third album (yet to be named) was recorded and produced in Nashville by Jordan Brooke Hamlin (Indigo Girls, Lucy Wainwright Roche) in May 2018 and is to be released late 2018/early 2019.
It’s said that Danni’s vibrant, spell binding performances are guaranteed to “melt your heart into the soles of your cowboy boots.” And that her “passionate delivery, captivating velvet voice and charmingly engaging between-song banter compel you to fall under her spell.”
I absolutely love the elegance and beauty of her music

About House Gigs
A House Gig provides a unique experience for both artists and audience in an intimate setting and is quite unlike any other gig you will attend. That’s why artists are always asking to come back! Some of my most favourite gigs have taken place in my lounge!
A House Gig is a private invitation only gig to the Rectory from Paula and myself. You can contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to be considered for a place and I’ll get back to you to confirm your attendance. Maximum two tickets per person – spaces are limited! I usually receive more applicants than places but I do set up a reserve list.
Doors will open at 7.00 pm (or 6.45 pm if you’re so excited you can’t wait or you simply want more drinking time!) and Danni will play two sets from 7.30 pm (ish!). We’ll provide some hot food during the interval (with a veggie option) all for the amazing price of £15 (payable in advance, please – I’ll give you details about how to pay when your invitation is confirmed). There will also be a reasonably priced honesty bar available!
A House Gig is a cosy (!?) event and, whilst we provide seating for most people, some of you will be required to sit on the floor – we’ll provide a comfy cushion for you (we have plenty of these) – so you might want to dress accordingly! Just so you know, we always encourage folk to swap around for the second set!
