This is a picture of Emmanuel Billericay, taken by Ben at 7.00 pm on Sunday 22 March when, along with Churches across the nation, prayers were offered and candles were lit in peoples homes.
We turned on all our lights to symbolise the light of Christ during this turbulent time.
The response on Billericay social media (and nationally via Twitter) has been quite amazing and was a source of hope, and inspiration, for many people.
Whilst this was only meant to be for one evening, I’ve decided to do this every evening and we’ll be switching on the lights at 7.00 pm for 15 minutes, until this crisis is over.
I will be saying Night Prayer at this time – please join me by lighting a candle in your window at 7.00 pm as together we pray for ourselves, our community, our nation and our world.
I will be using the contemporary version of Night Prayer which can be found here https://www.churchofengland.org/prayer-and-worship/join-us-service-daily-prayer which includes all the Prayers and the Bible Readings you will need – it is updated every day.
Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
