UPDATE 2 NOVEMBER 2020 Given the new guidelines surrounding ‘Lockdown 2’ the Act of Remembrance in Billericay High Street will, very disappointingly, NOT be going ahead. People are encouraged to stay at home at 11.00 am and commemorate this event with a two minute silence. However, Emmanuel will have a livestream Act of Remembrance from 10.50 am on our YouTube Channel (service starts at 10.30 am if you would like to join us then). You can download the service sheet here if you wish to follow the words Remembrance Sunday – Emmanuel 2020 Wreaths should be laid at any time other than 11:00 on Sunday or Wednesday 11th.
Following Government guidelines and after consultation between myself, the Billericay Town Council, the Billericay branch of the Royal British Legion and Basildon Borough Council, there will be no public Act of Remembrance in the High Street on Sunday 8 November.
This is not an unexpected decision, given the COVID 19 transmission risks associated with large gatherings.
Instead, a short Act of Remembrance will take place at the War Memorial with six people: Revd Paul Carr; Chair of Billericay Town Council; President of the Royal British Legion; Royal British Legion Standard Bearer; Bugler and his Timer.
I’m arranging for this event to be livestreamed on the Billericay Discussion Page on Facebook from upstairs at the Chequers – thanks to Cath for her support on this.
An Act of Remembrance will take place at Emmanuel during our 10.30 am service, along with other churches across Billericay.
Organisations in the community who normally order wreaths will be informed that the Billericay Town Council can lay wreaths on their behalf or organisations can arrange to lay their own wreaths after 11.30 am on Sunday 8 November.
There is a national initiative encouraging people to stand on their doorsteps for two minutes on Remembrance Sunday as a way to show their respects to the fallen.
The Royal British Legion have come up with lots of new ways to get involved with the Poppy Appeal this year including downloading a poppy to show in your window and ordering poppies in the post at www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal
