This is a copy of a letter I have mailed to John Baron MP.

Attn: John Baron MP

Saturday 16 April 2022

Dear Mr Baron,

I am one of over 300,000 people across the UK who have signed the petition asking for Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to step down after receiving police fines for breaking lockdown restrictions.

During lockdown thousands of people gave up precious moments with family, friends, and dying relatives to observe the rules and try to keep others safe. In my own case, only 10 mourners were allowed at my dad’s funeral in May 2020 and we weren’t allowed a wake afterwards which added distress upon distress. And I also know this to be true for many of my parishioners and funerals I led during lockdowns one, two and three. All this whilst those in Downing Street flaunted the rules to suit themselves.

It is quite unacceptable to me that our Prime Minister and Chancellor ignored the lockdown rules, rules they themselves put in place, and think they can continue to hold the most powerful positions in the UK. Moral integrity is so important in high office and if we do not have that in our government it sets a hugely unwelcome precedent for the future of parliament. As you will be well aware, this is the first time in history that a UK Prime Minister has broken the law whilst in office. We must make it very clear that this sort of behaviour is not OK and that no one is above the law or, indeed, the ministerial code.

As my representative in Parliament, I am writing to you to ask that you do everything in your power to represent my view and urge the Prime Minister, and Chancellor, to step down.

Thank you.

Revd Paul A. Carr
