Following his appearances supporting Fairport Convention and recently Jools Holland at The Cliffs Pavilion in Southend, and a very well received set at Slipped Discs in Billericay back in March, Canterbury based UK singer songwriter Luke Jackson will be playing a play a House Gig at the Rectory on Friday 29 September 2023 at 19.30 hrs (Doors at 18.45 hrs).
Luke has been playing live and recording for over 10 years, steadily developing an enviable reputation for himself in the Folk, Roots, Americana & Acoustic circuits. In addition to the UK, Luke regularly tours across Europe, USA and Canada.
Blessed with one of those soulful, heaven-sent voices that soars with emotion or plunges into brooding intensity.
The Musician MagazineReminds me of Jeff Buckley, which can only be a good thing.
Mark Radcliffe BBC Radio 2He is one of the most distinctive voices, both literally and figuratively, on the contemporary folk scene.
Folk Radio UKI was hugely impressed by every part of Luke’s music – he’s a great singer, writer and performer, a striking new voice.

Between his debut album, 2012’s ‘More Than Boys’, and 2022, 5 records, including a live album ‘Solo, Duo, Trio’ were released to high praise and 5-star reviews!
In the summer of 2019 he played his first full solo tour in the USA and his last full length studio album ‘Journals’ was released in November to great reviews and was made ‘Album of the Year’ by Fatea Magazine. R2 Magazine said, ‘Journals’ is an excellent album from a very special singer with a great repertoire, fully confirming his star potential beyond the folk scene’.
Like many, many others, Luke’s career was ‘put on hold’ with the advent of Covid 19. Luke kept himself busy and engaged with the musical community through a series of themed live stream shows and after a bit of a creative writing surge, released a 7 track EP in early 2021 of songs written during lockdown called ‘Of the Time’.
Initially a digital release, it is now available in CD format as well and garnered great reviews with Fatea magazine saying, “Luke Jackson has gifted us with one of the most important and essential releases I’ve heard in quite some time.” ‘Of The Time’ is an inspired offering” and was subsequently voted 2021 EP of the Year by Fatea Magazine!
2022 turned out to be one of Luke’s most successful years yet. It started with a prestigious support slot opening for Fairport Convention on their Winter Tour, a dream run of openers for Richard Thompson, two weeks song writing and performing in Nashville, a run of shows supporting the legendary Marillion and to finish off the year, several openers with the wonderful Jools Holland.
Alongside all of this, Luke continues to tour relentlessly in his own right, either solo, with either a bassist or drummer, or as a trio.
2023 is already shaping up to be another exciting year of shows with a full album release planned for late summer, so keep your eyes peeled and check his website regularly!
About House Gigs
A House Gig provides a unique experience for both artists and audience in an intimate setting and is quite unlike any other gig you will attend. That’s why artists are always asking to come back! Some of my most favourite gigs have taken place in my lounge!
A House Gig is a private invitation to the Rectory from Paula and me. You can contact me on paul@revpacman.com if you’d like to be considered for a place and I’ll get back to you to confirm your attendance. Maximum two tickets per person – spaces are limited! I usually receive more applicants than places, but I do set up a reserve list.
Doors will open at 7.00 pm (or 6.45 pm if you’re so excited you can’t wait, or you simply want more drinking time!) and Luke will play two sets from 7.30 pm (ish!). We’ll provide some hot food during the interval (with a veggie option) all for the amazing price of £20 (payable in advance, please – I’ll give you details about how to pay when your invitation is confirmed). There will also be a reasonably priced honesty bar available!
A House Gig is a cosy (!?) affair and, whilst we provide seating for most people, some of you will be required to sit on the floor – we’ll provide a comfy cushion for you (we have plenty of these) – so you might want to dress accordingly! Just so you know, we always encourage folk to swap around for the second set!
Please remember a House Gig is a listening event rather than a talking event. Do read the article below before you apply to come!
