Paphos, Cyprus, as I have found since I moved here in January 2024, is a captivating destination that offers a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Here are some some suggestions for you as you consider visiting the ‘Island of Love!’ and this charming Coastal city …
Historical and Archaeological Sites
Paphos Archaeological Park: Delve into the rich history of Paphos at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the well-preserved ruins of ancient villas, admire intricate mosaics, and visit the iconic Paphos Lighthouse. In fact, when walking around, it feels as though the vast majority of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Tombs of the Kings: Discover an ancient necropolis carved into solid rock. These impressive tombs, dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods, offer a glimpse into the burial practices of the time.
Paphos Castle: This medieval fort, located at the harbour, has served various purposes throughout its history. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the coastline and the city.
House of Dionysus: Marvel at the exquisite mosaics in this Roman villa, depicting scenes from Greek mythology. The vibrant colours and detailed artwork are truly captivating.
Saint Paul’s Pillar: Visit this significant Christian site where, according to tradition, Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas were flogged before converting the Roman governor to Christianity. You can read about this in the book of Acts chapter 13 in the Holy Bible. FYI, one of my churches, Ayia Kyriaki, was built on this site.

Natural Wonders and Beaches
Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou): Legend has it that this sea stack is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Admire the stunning coastal scenery and take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.
Coral Bay: Relax on the golden sands of this beautiful beach, swim in the calm turquoise waters, and enjoy the various water sports activities available.
Polis and Latchi: Located to the north of Paphos, the beaches and harbour are well worth visiting – the views on the roads are quite spectacular too. The best thing to do is drive through Tsada on the way and return through Peyia – that way you get the best of both journeys.
Akamas Peninsula National Park: Explore the rugged landscapes of this protected area, hike through scenic trails, and discover hidden coves and beaches. Don’t miss the Blue Lagoon, a stunning natural pool with crystal-clear waters.
Other Attractions
Paphos Harbour: Stroll along the picturesque harbour, lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops. Enjoy fresh seafood, admire the colourful fishing boats, and soak in the lively atmosphere.
Troodos Mountains: Enjoy a Jeep Safari into the mountains and visit some quaint and authentic Cyprus villages and visit one of the many wineries in the region as you do so. It’s said you can ski on the Troodos in the morning and surf on the beach in the afternoon!
