We are delighted to welcome Tinderbox to play in the intimate surroundings of Saint Mary Magdalen (‘The Church in the High Street’) Billericay, CM12 9BQ. Tinderbox are an award winning acoustic duo featuring Dublin born Monique Houraghan who has a distinctive ‘honey-like’ vocal, and Dan Tucker with an amazing and intricate finger style guitar technique. The duo have recently been accompanied on tour by talented singer-songwriter and musician Bob Burke.
After meeting in North Yorkshire in 1997, Monique enticed Dan to return to her hometown of Dublin where they worked on writing and performing new material for the next four years. They then travelled the world for two years taking their sweet and mellow sound to countries such as America, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
Since settling in Bournemouth in 2004, Tinderbox have performed countless headline shows to capacity crowds. Additionally, they have opened for many international acts including: Joan Armatrading, 10cc, Hazel O’Connor, Cara Dillon, Ralph McTell and Squeeze’s Chris Difford as well as appearing at a host of Folk Festivals right across the UK – I saw them at the Wessex Folk Fest and a house gig! In May 2010 Tinderbox returned from a successful tour of the USA and went on to win an award for ‘The Best European Group’ in Caceres, Spain.
Tinderbox have released four studio albums: The Fire’s Inside (2007); Golden (2008); The State Of Play (2010); and Counting Time (2012). Acoustic Magazine labels their music ‘Lovely, hooky and mellow’. BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson describes their music as ‘Gorgeous’. R2 magazine quoted ‘…tunes (that) stick in the memory from the start’ and Roger Day of BBC Radio Kent said they reminded him of ‘an early Fairport Convention.’
‘… seeing this band live will be an experience which remains long in the memory.’ Maverick Magazine
