In January we started a new sermon series at Emmanuel, Billericay looking at a Christian perspective of work!

In Snow White, the seven dwarfs go off to the mine each morning happily singing: “Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work we go!” However, their joyful enthusiasm is often far removed from our own experience of work.  For many Christians there is a gap between church on Sunday and work on Monday. These six Psalms help us to take our God to work – or maybe discover that He is already present in the workplace.

These six studies will focus on aspects of these Spirit-inspired songs that relate to our everyday working lives. They address the frustration we often feel: the temptations to compromise; the busyness and stresses of the workplace and the sometimes overwhelming expectations of colleagues. They will also help us to celebrate the good days when everything is going well.

Our Home Group sermons will usually be preached on the 2 and 4 Sundays of the month (with a change in March to accommodate Mothering Sunday). Full sermon / discussion notes will be provided both in church, and via our website, and all sermons at our 10.30 am service are recorded.

A Prayer For WORK

Lord Jesus, as I begin my work, I bring Your presence with me. I speak Your peace, Your grace and Your perfect order into the atmosphere of my work.

I acknowledge Your Lordship over all that will be spoken, thought, decided and accomplished this day.

Lord Jesus, I thank you for the gifts and skills You have given me. I do not take them lightly, but commit to using them responsibly and well.

Give me a fresh supply of truth and beauty on which to draw as I do my job today. Bless my creativity, my ideas, my energy so that even my smallest task may bring You honour.

Lord, when I’m confused, guide me – when I’m weary, energize me.

Lord, when I’m burned out, infuse me with the light of Your Holy Spirit.

May the work I do and the way I do it bring hope, life, and courage to all that I come into contact with today.

And oh Lord, even in this day’s most stressful moments, may I rest in You.

In the name of Jesus, I pray.

Amen.
