I offered these prayers at Emmanuel, Billericay on Sunday 11 April at the beginning of our livestream service at 10.30 am. Please feel free to use them if you are not sure what or how to pray.
Heavenly father,
We thank you for the life of Prince Philip.
We thank you for his distinguished Naval Career and his lifetime of faithful service.
The nation owes Prince Philip a great debt of gratitude as the longest serving Royal consort to a UK monarch.
We thank you for his love of duty and devotion to our Queen, our nation, and the commonwealth.
We thank you for his loyalty, commitment, and humour and for his legacy.
We thank you for the 6 million plus young people worldwide who took part in, and were inspired by, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.Prince Philip is also mourned as a husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather.
We pray your blessing on the Queen and the whole Royal Family as they mourn Prince Philip’s death.
May Her Majesty feel your presence surrounding her with love and comfort and may her faith in the risen Lord Jesus be a source of strength to her, and her family, at this sad time of mourning.
We pray for the many in our nation, and around the world, who mourn Prince Philip’s death.Heavenly Father, hear our prayers and bring Your comfort;
Renew our trust in Jesus, whom You raised from the dead;
Strengthen our faith that those who die in the love of Jesus will share in His resurrection;
We pray these things through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Gathering our thoughts, prayers, praises and memories into one, let us pray with confidence the prayer our Saviour has taught us (using the words of the traditional version):
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done;
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
