“Captivating – Deserving of a nationwide audience” Musician Magazine
We are delighted to welcome Rob back to Billericay. Rob played a storming set in the Rectory Garden in June 2009 (on tour with American namesake singer/songwriter Bob Halligan) and impressed many with his unique style of song and banter.
Rob’s life took a new direction after the death of his father in the terrorist events of 9/11 and this is evident in his writing. His songs challenge faith, politics and complacency and are delivered with a rough spirituality, brutal honesty and tested to be true.
Over the last 6 years, Rob has made his mark on the British unsigned music scene as an award-winning singer/songwriter. 2009 saw the launch of Rob’s fourth CD, ‘Best Thing That’s Happened’ recorded with Graeme Duffin (Wet Wet Wet) and produced by Sandy Jones (Wet Wet Wet). Style-wise, it’s acoustic folk-rock and was nominated Best Contemporary Album at the CBC media awards 2010.
“The question remains that why have such artists as Rob never gained the exposure he sorely deserves? He certainly has the quality and talent to succeed; all he needs is that lucky break. This album could certainly be that break” Maverick Magazine
Radio 2 presenter Paul Gambaccini, commented, “These are some of the strongest songs I’ve heard for a while”. The album had airplay on BBC1 TV, BBC Radio 2, and a host of local TV and radio stations.
Rob spends a lot of time ‘on the road’ and has now played at some of the finest acoustic venues and festivals in the UK, including the Acoustic Festival of Britain and the SOLID Youth Festival. Rob has also appeared twice at Emmanuel as lead singer with 1980’s hit makers After The Fire. This is sure to be a great evening and one not to be missed. Get your ticket before they are sold out!
